Every year during the first week of June, national boating and fishing week commences.

Many states offer FREE fishing days where no licenses are required.

These days are great for testing how likely you would return to see if a fishing license is worth the cost for your family.

If you are interested, check with your local parks or lakes to see if any community events are planned for this week.

Get ready for National Doughnut Day. It is coming on Friday, June 6, 2014.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, my favorite doughnut shoppe, is celebrating National Doughnut Day by offering each guest a FREE doughnut of any variety on Friday, June 6.

From a crème-filled, jelly-filled, hot and ready glazed, or cake doughnut, you can try a new variety or choose a favorite.

Speaking of new varieties, have you tried the limited time birthday cake batter doughnut or the brownie batter doughnut?

I might need to try one of these before they remove them from the menu. I am still hooked on the chocolate iced crème-filled as it is my favorite.

As we plan next Friday, a visit to our Krispy Kreme Doughnuts will definitely land on our schedule.

Most locations are open from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., but check your local store in the United States or Canada for their participation and operating hours.

If you live in certain parts of Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, or Nebraska, then LaMar’s Donuts is celebrating National Donut Day on Friday, June 6, 2014.

With no purchase necessary, guests get their choice of a FREE donut. The only restriction is that the donut chosen must have a hole.

This offer is only available on Friday, June 6, 2014, at participating LaMar’s Donut locations.

In addition to offering a FREE donut to guests, LaMar’s Donuts partners with the Salvation Army to help fight child hunger.

Donations are accepted via their website or their store locations.

In preparation for Sunday, Lakeshore Learning stores chose a FREE Father’s Day Pencil Holder craft for Saturday, June 14, 2014.

Each Saturday, Lakeshore Learning Stores offer a FREE craft project from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at participating locations.

The Father’s Day pencil holder is a FREE project for children ages 3 and up with no reservations necessary.

In using time wisely, children will use the Lakeshore Learning supplies to create an organizer for Dad.

One of our family’s favorite days of the year is on the horizon. We are so excited because Chick-fil-A’s Cow Appreciation Day is Friday, July 11, 2014.

Last year, we left for our family vacation to Florida on this special day. We were treated all day to FREE Chick-fil-A from South Carolina to Florida.

My favorite stop was in Gainsville, Florida, where the cow was dressed in a Florida Gator cheerleading costume.

With the big event 2 weeks away, it is time to get out the cow gear. If you dress from head to hoof in cow attire, then Chick-fil-A will reward you with a FREE meal.

Not into costumes? Well, you can still receive a FREE entrée with partial cow attire (e.g., shirt, hat, tail, etc.).

In case you need some inspiration for your cow costume, you can download the Chick-fil-A Cow Starter Kit. Just print out the parts and place them on cardboard, poster board, or stick them to your clothes.

If you do the latter, you might want to safety pin the items as they will fall off with tape. I can speak from experience as we were constantly picking up parts of our costumes when we taped them to ourselves. It was fun but a bit of a hassle.

Knowing that this event comes around once a year, I waited for a sale on t-shirts and painted our own shirts. Then, my parents gave us Chick-fil-A cow bells which were fun last year.

Easy Costume

Another option is to cut holes in a white t-shirt. Wear a solid black shirt and add the holey white shirt on top. Add black shorts, black shoes, and a crown with ears/horns for a complete outfit.

Get creative because you have two weeks to get mooo-ving. Cow Appreciation Day is lots of fun (our family in 2011 and 2012) with some locations offering FREE coupons and giveaways that day.
