Preparing for Daylight Savings Time

Checking my calendar for the week, I found a followup notation to check our supply for 9-volt batteries. With Daylight Savings Time arriving this coming Sunday morning, March 9, 2014, we will change out the batteries in our smoke detectors.

By changing the batteries twice a year, we avoid being awakened in the middle of the night with chirping sounds from a low battery in our smoke detectors.

We did have a carbon monoxide detector that squeaked at us early one morning because we did not realize there was a battery backup.

If you are seeking 9-volt batteries, then check out this search results page from Southern Savers, listing all the battery deals this week. With both CVS and Walgreens offering buy one, get one free sales, we can purchase any remaining batteries needed without paying full price.

For those of you who participate in Daylight Savings Time, you might want to start preparing now. I know some children really struggle with the change. If you have such a one, then try scaling your schedule back a little at a time throughout the week.

Losing an hour of sleep is not pleasant for most, but going to bed 10-15 minutes earlier each night for 4-5 nights is an easier adjustment than one hour earlier on one day. This is just a suggestion for those who struggle as we prepare for Daylight Savings Time. Happy preparing!

Question: Do you change the batteries in your smoke detectors at both Daylight Savings Times, at one of them, or do you wait until you hear the chirp?

2013: Daylight Savings Time – Fall Back

Officially, at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2013, Daylight Savings Time ends. In using time wisely, I love falling back and getting an extra hour in the day.

Knowing that an extra hour is available, I admonish you to seize that hour rather than wasting it. Time is a gift that you can never get back.

Though I have forgotten Daylight Savings Time in the past *ahem*, I have learned to set my clocks early on Saturday evening.

I hope to go to bed “on time” and get an extra hour of rest. We are due for cooler temperatures this weekend, and my body takes the adjustment better when I am rested.

Seize your extra hour, remember to turn your clocks back, and change those smoke detector batteries.

Happy Daylight Savings Time!

Question: For those of us participating in Daylight Savings Time, how will you spend your extra hour?

2013: Daylight Savings Time – Spring Forward

Officially, at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2013, Daylight Savings Time begins. Since I do not plan to wait for the big moment, our family adjusted our clocks before going to bed on Saturday night.

In celebration of Daylight Savings Time, our family will stop by our participating Krispy Kreme Doughnuts for our free original glazed doughnut. I hope they are hot and ready when we arrive. 😉

Though you are losing an hour, choose to work smarter rather than harder in using time wisely. You can then accomplish more in less time.

Happy Daylight Savings Time!

Daylight Savings Time: Sunday, November 4, 2012

What a blessed thought . . . an extra hour heading our way Saturday night! With our fall festival all day Saturday, I am looking forward to relaxing and sleeping soundly an extra hour on Saturday night.

As daylight savings time comes to a close, how you will spend your extra hour? In using time wisely, I plan to soak a bit longer in a hot bathtub and then go to bed. That is, if I don’t fall asleep in the bathtub. 😉

I plan to reset my clock before going to bed as I will not be up at 2:00 a.m. to do so. For those who know me well, you know that 2:00 a.m. is prime working time. However, in using my time wisely, I will go to bed.

For those who live in a daylight savings time area, adjust your clocks for the change on Sunday, November 3, 2012. Happily adjusting my clock; enjoy your extra hour!

Question: What do you have planned for Saturday’s time change?

If you live in the land of Daylight Savings Time, then we will lose an hour of sleep tonight. Never fear, we get to gain our hour back on November 4.

As you saunter off to dreamland, be sure to set your clock ahead one hour.

I still remember missing Daylight Savings Time and noticing it on Sunday afternoon. Glad I found out on Sunday. Had it not been, I would have been late to work on Monday morning. 😉

Enjoy your day, even if it is a little shorter.

Happy Daylight Savings Time!

Question: Will you be changing the batteries in your smoke detectors?
