Highlighting 14 summer reading programs in these two weeks, I hope you will find multiple ways to keep your reader learning and exploring this summer. These programs encourage life-long learners with rewards for meeting a goal.

Our summer reading series:

  1. Barnes & Noble Imagination’s Destination
  2. Chuck E. Cheese
  3. Half Price Books Feed Your Brain
  4. H-E-Buddy Summer Reading Club
  5. H-E-Buddy 321 for Summer Fun Challenge

H-E-Buddy 321 for Summer Fun Challenge

Participants

Open to Texas residents, ages 12 and younger.

Program Length

June 1 through August 10 with the reading log due by August 31, 2013.

Goal

321: Read 3 days a week completing 10 books, go 2 special places, and eat 1 new fruit and vegetable.

Requirements

Record the titles of the 10 books read, draw or place photos of 2 places you went, and draw or place photos of the new fruit and vegetable on the reading log form.

Redemption

Mail the completed reading log to H-E-Buddy 321 for Summer Fun Challenge, 10530 Sentinel, San Antonio, TX 78217.

Reward

Prize fulfillment takes approximately 4-6 weeks.

Our H-E-Buddy 321 for Summer Fun Experience

This is a NEW program. I’m not sure if it will end up replacing the H-E-Buddy Summer Reading Club, but for this year, both programs have different lengths and different requirements. The programs have separate websites and promotional explanations, but redemption is through the same address.

Though our family does not reside in Texas, we will still submit our reading logs. We will submit 3 reading logs and will wait to see what happens. Completing the reading log is good practice for my children and will make a great rainy day activity this summer.

In using time wisely, the H-E-Buddy 321 for Summer Fun Challenge is worth my family’s time, energy, and money for a postage stamp. Even if we do not receive a reward, the writing, drawing, and reading is good practice for them all. Happy summer reading!

Our H-E-Buddy Summer Reading Club Experience

Summer Reading: H-E-BuddyTexas Resident Limitation

Though we do not live in Texas, I have submitted my children’s reading logs for the past four years. The last two years have been limited to Texas residents.

The first year (2011), we received our rewards right away. Last year (2012), we received our rewards in November beyond the 3-4 week turnaround. My kids were thrilled as they had forgotten about the reward.

Redemption

I print three reading logs, complete the forms with the books read, and mail all three forms in the same envelope.

Rewards

Every year, I have received one package with the rewards for all my children. The rewards we receive are a pencil, personalized reading certificate, and t-shirt. My children aptly call these shirts – Buddy the Bag shirts.

Though I cannot guarantee you will receive these rewards if you are not a Texas resident, I can share our experiences with this program. We enjoy this reading program with the extra time allowed for submitted the reading form.

In using time wisely, this program has been worth the few minutes to complete and the cost of a postage stamp. In encouraging reading, the H-E-Buddy 2013 Summer Reading Club provides great prizes which my children enjoy. Tomorrow, I will share another H-E-Buddy summer reading program that is new this year. Happy summer reading!

Redemption

Take the finished Reading Journal to your local Barnes & Noble bookstore.

Reward

Choose a FREE book from the available titles listed on the Reading Journal.

Barnes & Noble Imagination’s Destination Highlights

The Mouse and the MotorcycleMy son has participated in this reading program for the past 2 years. The first year, we waited to redeem the Reading Journal until the end of the summer and the selection was down to a few books.

Last summer, he submitted his reading journal by the end of June. All the book choices were still available, and he enjoyed making a selection.

The unique part to Barnes & Nobles’ reading program is thinking about whom else would enjoy reading the books read. My son took this question seriously as he thought about whether boys or girls or both would enjoy the books he read.

Without any registration, you only need to print the Reading Journal for each participating student, record the information, and trade the journal for a FREE book. Happy summer reading!
